EASTERN CHIPMUNK (Tamius striatus)
 

Description

  • Body Length: 5.4" - 7.3"
  • Weight: 2.75 oz - 4 oz
  • Color: Back is reddish-brown with five lengthwise dark stripes alternating with white. Belly is white.
  • Tail is furry, not bushy. Fur is straight and fine.

Habitat: Deciduous forests and bushy areas. They live underground in tunnels as long as 15 feet, which are kept extremely clean.

  • Scampers away from danger
  • Hibernates lightly from October/early November until late February

Diet: Nuts, seeds, mushrooms.

Language: A variety of chipping calls.
