Woodchuck

Description:

Body length: 16"- 27", tail is 4"- 6"
Weight: 4 lbs - 14 lbs
Color: Grayish-brown fur with red or yellow highlights. Fur is long and very coarse.

Habitat: At the edge of the woods and an open field, or by stream banks. Woodchucks (also called groundhogs) build nests underground in tunnels 3-6 feet deep.

Personality:

Diurnal, most active in early morning and late afternoon
Very difficult to get close to
Hibernates from October to February (doesn't always come out on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2).

Diet: Green plants like grasses, clover, and alfalfa.

Language: Whistling and squealing.
